“Turn and Talk” is a partner strategy that helps students practice the essential skills of speaking, listening, and understanding one another.
This structured routine encourages students to take turns sharing their ideas while the other partner listens. Through respectful communication, focused thinking, and active listening, the conversation is slowed down and intention is built to help students stay on topic, feel heard, and build confidence in sharing their ideas.
When students practice talking, listening, reflecting, and clarifying, they strengthen the communication skills that support learning, collaboration, and positive classroom relationships.
